Every summer, the internet decides on a nail color: This year
it’s butter yellow — the exact shade of a fresh stick of
unsalted European butter, applied to fingertips,
for €60 at a Milan salon.

I t shouldn’t work. Yellow is the color of warning signs, taxis, and 1970s kitchens. And yet: on nails, it reads almost as a neutral. Creamy, glossy, vaguely edible. Pantone is involved. Vogue has opinions. Hailey Bieber posted hers in March and the matter was settled.

The trick is finish: glassy, wet-look, never matte. Almond shape, short to medium length. Pair with literally anything — white linen, denim, a tan, a tantrum. It works.

Will it look dated by October? Absolutely. That’s the point. Butter melts.
